Gold
Jewelry-
It’s not too difficult to learn
how to clean jewelry made of gold. Regular use of gold jewelry
can leave behind residue on them. This residue is comprised of
the powders and lotions that we use in our daily life. Besides
accumulation of dust particles is also not uncommon in the intricate
carvings of gold jewelry. Using a mild detergent diluted in water
can easily clean all this dirt. The jewelry can be scrubbed clean
with a help of a discarded soft bristle toothbrush. Jewelry polishing
cloths, for example chamois, also make it easier and quicker for
us to clean gold jewelry.
Silver Jewelry -
Learning how to clean jewelry made of sterling silver is not a
mammoth task either. Silver jewelry can also be cleaned easily
with the help of water and ammonia solution. However we must be
careful to avoid letting our silver jewelry to come in contact
with swimming pools and hot tubs. This is because the chlorine
content present in the swimming pool water can easily react with
silver and tarnish its polish.
Here’s how to clean jewelry which have
pearls or gems set in them- Though its safe enough to dip most
gems in alcohol, its always suggested that we use mild soapy water
for cleaning pearls because they are very delicate and highly
susceptible to scratches.
Diamond Jewelry-
Diamond jewelry can be cleaned either with the help of mild detergent
or mild dishwashing detergent. This helps in restoring back the
diamond’s brilliance.
Besides learning how to clean jewelry it is
also important to know how to store them and take their proper
care. Jewelry should always be kept in a fabric lined jewel case
with separate compartments that will prevent abrasion. Even while
cleaning jewelry we must remember not to let them stay immersed
in the water for too long. Excess moisture also diminishes the
sparkle of the jewelry. We should use hair sprays and perfumes
only after we have removed the jewelry that we are wearing. Avoid
wearing jewelry while cooking, gardening etc.
If we diligently follow the above tips our jewelry will be sure
to last us for a lifetime!
